"Die Young" is a song performed by Ke$ha for Warrior. The track was written by Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco, Cirkut, and the lead singer from indie band, fun., Nate Ruess. The song appears as track two on the album. It was registered onto her BMI on September 6, 2012. The track was scheduled to be released on September 25, 2012, but was released onto iTunes a day early.

Background and compositionEdit

The verses of the song contain big electronic breaks, and heavy drums, before the chorus "stomps" and "claps" and features virtually no drums. The track is said to draw from electronic rock and pop-rock genres, although the track has not been heard yet. Co-producer Benny Blanco described the track as "old hippie rock." On Ke$ha's official website, the opening picture is a .gif which is suspected to be the chorus lyrics of "Die Young". "Let's make the most of the night. Like were gonna Die Young."

Promotion and releaseEdit

Ke$ha announced at the 2012 VMAs that "Die Young" is set for a September 2012 release. Ke$ha did not confirm a solid date within September, however the single is bound to have a release in the month at some stage, suggestively towards the latter of September. The release has been confirmed to see a release on September 25th. Leading up to the release, Ke$ha has released two promotional videos on her personal YouTube page under the title "Tokyo 2012" and "Tokyo 2012. Part 2."

Deconstructed MixEdit

To help promote Warrior, Ke$ha recorded an acoustic EP titled Deconstructed. This EP includes acoustic versions of songs off Cannibal, Warrior, and a cover. On November 23, 2012, the "Deconstructed Mix" was released onto iTunes in further promotion for Warrior.

ControversyEdit

The day after the Newtown shooting in Connecticut transpired, the song was pulled from some radio stations, causing a controversial online message with "Not Your Fault Kesha" trending on social networking site Twitter. The track, which features the lyrics "like we're gonna die young", was refused airplay by certain radio stations because of the inappropriate nature of the song due to the school shooting. The withdrawal sent out a mixed response online. Ke$ha stated on Twitter how sorry she was for the controversial message of the song. She went on to say that she was "forced" to sing the song.

Ke$ha debuted "Die Young" on October 29, 2012 at the El Rey Theatre.

LyricsEdit

I hear your heartbeat to the beat of the drums
Oh, what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you’re here in my arms
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young
We’re gonna die young
We’re gonna die young
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young

Yong hearts out our minds
Runnin' 'till we outta time
Wild childs lookin' good
Livin' hard just like we should
Don’t care who’s watchin' when we tearin' it up (you know)
That magic that we got that nobody can touch (fo' sho)

Lookin' for some trouble tonight (yeah)
Take my hand I’ll show you the wild side
Like it’s the last night of our lives (uh huh)
We’ll keep dancin' till we die

I hear your heartbeat to the beat of the drums
Oh, what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you’re here in my arms
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young
We’re gonna die young
We’re gonna die young
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young

Young punks taking shots
Strippin down to dirty socks
Music up gettin' hot
Kiss me, give you all you got
It’s pretty obvious that you got a crush (you know)
That magic in your pants is makin' me blush (fosho)

Lookin' for some trouble tonight (yeah)
Take my hand I’ll show you the wild side
Like it’s the last night of our lives (uh huh)
We’ll keep dancin' till we die
(Till we die, we die, we die, we die, we die, we die)

I hear your heartbeat to the beat of the drums
Oh, what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you’re here in my arms
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna
I hear your heartbeat to the beat of the drums
Oh, what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you’re here in my arms
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young
We’re gonna die young
We're gonna die young
Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young

Background and developmentEdit

The video was directed by Darren Craig. To promote the single, two teaser trailers were released online. The first showed a waffle waitress holding a slip of paper inscribed with a capital "R", which resembles the official logo of Rihanna, leading to rumors that Rihanna would possibly be featured on the song. The second video appeared online, after the singer tweeted, "Wanna hint?". It displayed Ke$ha in the Tokyo Metro, whistling the chorus of "Die Young" An official lyric video was posted to Ke$ha's Vevo account the day of the single's release. On September 24, 2012, celebrity makeup artist and blogger for People Scott Barnes wrote that he was working with Ke$ha on the music video for "Die Young". On the video itself and the makeup artistry behind it, he said: "... I like to blow people’s expectations away, and that means creating something they’ve never seen before — so stay tuned to see what we come up with." Photographs of Ke$ha on-set for the filming of the music video leaked online. Jenna Hally Rubenstein of MTV commented: "...Ke$ha [is] into wearing basically nothing these days...and it's looking like that no-clothes theme has continued." She compared the leaked photographs and the cover art for the single, further comparing it to Cher's body rope, certain professional wrestlers, and Amazon princesses. Ke$ha announced that the video would be released the following day on November 7. "Die Young" is also Ke$ha's only music video to ever become "VEVO Certified."

Concept and synopsisEdit

Playing the role of a cult leader, Ke$ha and her fictitious disciples raid a hamlet in rural Mexico, engaging in various forms of sexual debauchery. According to Billboard, the video is a shout-out to the Illuminati. Occult symbols ubiquitously associated with the secret society such as the all-seeing eye of Horus, inverted crosses, pentagrams, and triangles pervade the video. Calling the imagery "blatant", Billboard reviewed the video as "tak[ing] the singer's button-pushing ability to dizzying new heights." Sending text messages to her "Animals" (an affection title bestowed on her fans) in the video, Ke$ha writes: "We made it… SOUTH OF THE BORDER… they'll never find us here". The scene was later removed due to product placement.
